Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Kenny Jackett has reignited his interest in New Zealand international striker Chris Wood

Wood, 23, has already played for eight sides in England, six of those clubs on loan.

Jackett is a keen admirer of the towering centre-forward and sees him as perfect competition for Benik Afobe and Nouha Dicko for a first-team spot.

Wolves have targeted Wood before

It is not the first time Wolves have circled for Wood, having previously had a £1.25million bid knocked back for the ex-West Bromwich Albion frontman.

Wood is believed to be the number one target for Wanderers as they look to mount a serious promotion push and Championship-experienced players are seen as a key part of achieving this.

The most recent loan spell for Wood was a disappointment as he failed to find the net in eight appearances for Ipswich Town.

His most impressive loan spell came at Millwall when, under Jackett's management, he scored 11 goals in 18 starts.

Leicester signed him for £2million and he has gone on to score 19 goals for the club in two seasons in the Championship, but failed to help the Foxes in their great escape during their first season in the Premier League.

Wolves want Premier League football

The Black Country side have had a turbulent few years with Kenny Jackett rescuing the sinking ship, guiding them immediately back up from League One and subsequently leading them to a positive season last term as they missed out on the play-offs on goal difference alone.

Kevin Doyle left for the MLS back in May and star man Bakary Sako is expected to leave when his contract expires at the end of the month, with plenty of interest from the Premier League from clubs such as West Brom and Everton.

Wolves have also been keeping closing tabs on Inter Milan striker Samuele LongoCrystal Palace’s Dwight Gayle and Cardiff City’s Joe Mason, according to reports.
