It is being reported in the Independent that Arsenal are among a host of clubs eyeing up a move for France International Yohan Cabaye

Arsene Wenger first tried to sign the Paris Saint-Germain midfielder back in 2013 from Alan Pardew's Newcastle, but his club rejected a £10 million offer which was seen in some quarters as "disrespectful".

It has not even been a year since Cabaye's move back to his homeland but it appears Paris Saint-Germain would be willing to sell, only if they could recoup anywhere near the £19 million they paid for him last January as manager Laurent Blanc is keen on adding reinforcements to his squad in the upcoming transfer window.

There is no doubting the talent that the former Newcastle and Lille man would bring to the Arsenal squad. During his time at Newcastle he was their stand out player and in his final season on Tyneside (2012-13) he scored six goals in 26 games also creating 53 chances in the process.

The one question that still remains will be "Is he what Arsenal need?" Cabaye would be a more than useful addition to the Arsenal midfield but he is a very similar player to what they already have. What is needed is a tough, uncompromising defensive midfield player and Cabaye is far from that.

Arsenal fans will also ask themselves why was Cesc Fabregas not brought back in the Summer and they would be right to do so. What Fabregas and Cabaye offer is identical so you would have to surmise that this interest is an acknowledgement of Wenger's failure to buy appropriately in pre-season. He is already feeling the pressure and the ill feeling from the Arsenal faithful will only grow if their worries are not properly addressed.
