Arsenal manager Arséne Wenger has publicly stated his desire to sign the world's best players, as he is eager to keep the core of the Gunners' squad together and avoid selling any marquee players in the process - as they try to compete with the likes of Chelsea for the Premier League title in the near future.

The Gunners ran out comfortable victors in a 3-1 away win over Hull City on Monday evening, with £30million pound summer signing Alexis Sanchez scoring a brace as he continues his superb first season in England. Wenger is believed to be in the market for more players with the quality that Alexis himself possesses, as the 26-year-old Chilean has had a positive effect on the team on the whole, and has been their best player in the 2014-15 season to date.

Wenger himself had this to say to reporters after the game: "We have a big squad and we have to see now how we finish. We want to focus now on finishing the season well and then we will see what we can do, but the basis is there. We do not need to buy a number of players. If we find top, world-class players we look at it but we have a very strong squad already in numbers, and the basis is to get together, stay together, and start well next season.

League leaders Chelsea secured the title on Sunday afternoon with a narrow 1-0 win against Crystal Palace, but Wenger has remained adamant that Arsenal will be in title contention next year. "Give me a little breather until August", Wenger stated. "What is at stake now is to finish the season well. If we maintain our run then we will finish second and we still have the FA Cup final - we will see where we are after that. I am always optimistic, because in this job if you are pessimistic, you don't go far. I feel like we have made progress and Chelsea was the winner this year because they've been the most consistent team of all. Let's finish well, prepare well for next season and give them a good fight.
