These two European powerhouses take on each other for the first time in the International Champions Cup in Baltimore, Maryland since 2012, when Fernando Torres scored past Victor Valdes and put Chelsea into the UEFA Champions League final.

They would win it all in Munich later in May of that year, in a dramatic game at the Allianz Arena. There is still no love lost and, while this is only a friendly, many Blues fans will still remember the ''disgrace'' of 2009 - in which Andres Iniesta scored a game winning goal in the last minute after four Chelsea penalty appeals were turned down.

Chelsea's take

Chelsea opened their pre-season campaign with a 4-2 loss against the New York Red Bulls, as some doubts arose after a strong side fielded by the Premier League champions were unable to be a reserve team of the MLS club.

They did beat Paris-Saint Germain on penalties after a 1-1 draw on Saturday, however. That means that they have one more match in the United States before heading back to prepare for one more friendly at the Bridge, against Fiorentina, and before the FA Community Shield match at Wembley against FA Cup champions Arsenal.

Cesc Fabregas also returns to play against his hometown team for the first time in his second stint away from FC Barcelona, and Jose Mourinho will also coach against the Blaugrana for the first time since leaving Real Madrid.

Barcelona's take

When these two last met in a match in the Champions League in 2009 and 2012, the winner of the tie went on to win the Champions League that year. The defending European champions take on Chelsea as champions for the first time since 2012, but this is a weaker side that came to the United States compared to what they are used to.

After defeating Los Angeles Galaxy in the first game 2-1, the Blaugrana were not as sharp against Manchester United in the second match and they lost 3-1. Still, it is possible that Luis Enrique will use a lot of youth and fringe players going into this match, despite the absence of the major South American players such as Claudio Bravo, Neymar, Lionel Messi and so forth.

Pedro missed training yesterday and Douglas was absent during the last match, due to precautionary measures, but they should be match fit going into this match. However, Rafinha will not be avaliable.

Likely line-ups:

Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Courtois; Ivanovic, Terry, Cahill, Azpilicueta; Matic, Fabregas; Hazard, Oscar, Willian; Costa

Barcelona (4-3-3): Ter Stergen; Douglas, Bartra, Vermaelen, Mathieu; Rakitic, Busquets, Roberto; Munir, Suárez, Pedro
