It wasn't a perfect start to the season for Jose Mourinho's Chelsea side, as they drew 2-2 against Swansea City on Saturday evening.

Nor was it the perfect start to life at the club for new goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, a summer signing from fellow Premier League side Stoke City, after he was thrust into action following the sending off of Thibaut Courtois.

Immediately faced with a penalty from Bafetimbi Gomis, the Bosnian international couldn't stop it from going in, and admitted that his introduction "was not ideal".

A difficult start

The game did not go the way the defending champions had planned, letting two leads slip out of their hands, and having to battle with 10 men, as Swansea's hungry team looked to produce a shock result.

Going down to 10 men made the game even more difficult for the home side, with the Swans being able to pick up more space and dominate possession.

Coming back into the game from that point was always going to be difficult for Chelsea, something that Begovic also spoke about, commenting that "When you go down to 10 men it puts you on the back foot."

However, he did believe that his team "stuck together well" and portrayed "good resilience" to keep Swansea from scoring again, and that in the end it was a "decent" point.

Could Chelsea have won?

Even though Swansea caused Mourinho's side problems at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea still had chances of their own to take three points from the game.

Begovic felt that they did enough to potentially win the game, adding that if "a couple of chances had gone differently" things could have been different, as he praised Lukas Fabianski for producing a "good save" from Eden Hazard

In the end the Blues could only settle for a draw, one which Begovic was happy to accept, saying "We’ll take the point and move on to next week."

What next?

With the opening weekend now behind them, Chelsea have begun looking forward towards their next fixture. It does not get any easier for them either, taking on title rivals Manchester City.

It may be early on in the season, but a game against a fellow title chasing club is of great importance, and both teams will be heading into it desperate to get the upper hand on one-another.

With Courtois' red card appeal being rejected, he will be unavailable, giving Begovic an opportunity to start his first competitive Chelsea game. This is an opportunity he thinks he is ready for, as he explained that he "wants to play as many games" as he possibly can whilst at the club, and it is due to this that he "looks forward to next week."
