Chelsea manager José Mourinho has said that many people “love” to see the Premier League champions after their first win of the season.

Chelsea defeat West Brom - in tough away battle

After their 3-0 defeat to Manchester City last Sunday, the west London club were looking to bounce back on their trip to the Hawthorns, Pedro Rodríguez marked his debut with the opening goal after 20 minutes before Diego Costa doubled the lead ten minutes later.

James Morrison pulled one back before Cesar Azpilicueta restored their two-goal lead, the dismissal of John Terry and another from Morrison made a tough second-half for Mourinho’s side but managed to hold on for the three points.

However, the 52-year-old said "many people" will be "disappointed" with the result as they "love" to see the London club "lose a game."

Terry's dismissal

Chelsea were reduced to ten men by referee Mark Clattenburg after he judged the club's captain Terry had pulled down striker Solomon Rondon just outside the area, a decision which infuriated the Portuguese coach.

Mourinho refused to speak about the specific incident in Sunday's game as to speak about the sending off, saying that he instead prefers to have "no views" and in turn, tried to keep quiet about the situation.

When asked if they would appeal the decision, he said they should but said it would be a "waste of time" and proceeded to point out incidents from last campaign involving Nemanja Matic and Costa against Burnley and Liverpool respectively.

Pedro praised

Pedro Rodríguez was Mourinho's latest stellar signing after the Spanish forward - who was heavily linked with a move to rivals Manchester United completed his £21m move to Stamford Bridge earlier in the week.

Mourinho was quick to heap praise on the 28-year-old after pulling on the Chelsea shirt for the first time saying the winger "played well" and it looked like that he had been with the squad for a "long time" as he was involved in the game straight away and was "important" for the visitors.

Chelsea will be hoping to fully kick-start their season when they welcome fellow Londoners Crystal Palace to Stamford Bridge on Saturday, August 29 - in what promises to be a tricky test once more.
