After a deadline day move to Chelsea from Nantes, Papy Djilobodji spoke to the Chelsea website on his new surroundings in London and what the future holds for him.

The Senegalese defender spoke about the move, saying, "I have come here to learn and to go to higher places with the club, and to win trophies as well." Djilobodji went on to reiterate his excitement about joining the current Premier League champions and is raring to "show all [his] qualities" to the team and supporters.

The 26-year old revealed he did not know any of the current Chelsea players personally but did play against the likes of Eden Hazard and Radamel Falcao when they played in for Lille and Monaco respectively. Upon his arrival, he was greeted by John Terry and Oscar, among others, while also saying he enjoyed "a bit of banter with some of the youngsters."

Djilobodji did discuss his desire to improve, assuring supporters that he is ready to learn from his new manager and teammates while highlighting his current strengths in defence. 

Djilobodji keen to emulate other African stars

The defender showed his admiration for the club's history of successful African players, the likes of Didier Drogba and Michael Essien, saying, "I want to do exactly what they have done. They're role models and I want to emulate them."

Djilobodji is not expected to break into the starting lineup for Chelsea but will put pressure on Gary Cahill and the ageing John Terry to keep performing at a high level. It's been a rough start to the campaign for Jose Mourinho's side and any help defensively will be welcome with open arms.

The 26-year old, who has impressed in Ligue 1, will be hoping to make an immediate impact when his opportunity arises and seems delighted with his move to the Premier League
