Chelsea and West Bromwich Albion played out a thrilling 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

Guus Hiddink's side took the lead through Cesar Azpilicueta before Craig Gardner's long-range effort levelled the tie.

Gareth McAuley then put the ball into his own net in the second half to restore Chelsea's lead, but James McClean's late equaliser split the points between the two sides.

The result means Chelsea remain unbeaten since the sacking of Jose Mourinho, but it was a game they probably should've won. West Brom, meanwhile, will be happy with their point in an impressive performance.

Level at the break...

Chelsea started the game the brightest, going close after two minutes when Diego Costa's run helped a chance open up for him, but he fired over the bar. West Brom responded instantly though as McClean headed over from a good position as he was challenged in the air by a teammate.

Just before the ten minute mark, Willian then created space for himself after coming inside from the right flank, but the Brazilian's effort from distance flew just wide of the far post.

Every time Chelsea went close, the visitors responded as they did three minutes after Willian's chance. This time, Gardner's cross found Darren Fletcher alone at the backpost, but Azpilicueta blocked the midfielder's shot at the last minute. It would in fact be Azpilicueta who opened the scoring midway through the first half too.

A quick break from Chelsea resulted in Branislav Ivanovic getting the ball on the right side, and the right-back hit a low-driven cross in front of goal for his fellow full-back, Azpilicueta, to tap in from close range at the far post to make it 1-0.

Three minutes after the half hour mark though, West Brom were level thanks to their first half substitute Gardner. After Pedro was dispossessed, the visitors broke before the ball found Gardner, who let one go from distance and saw it fly past Thibaut Courtois into the far corner.

...And at full time

The second half didn't really get going until the net rippled again 17 minutes from time. Willian's low ball to the near post looked to have been put in by Kenedy for his first Premier League goal, but, after a replay, it appeared that the last touch actually came off McAuley to make it 2-1 to Chelsea.

Still, Kenedy almost got his first goal in the league in the 81st minute as the Brazilian skipped past three West Brom players before shooting inches wide of Boaz Myhill's post.

Instead, West Brom were level with four minutes to go as Chelsea failed to clear a ball into the box. It came out to McClean on the edge of the area and he made them pay, slotting it into the bottom corner.

The result keeps the two sides in the same position they were before the game. Chelsea remain 14th, three points behind West Brom in 13th. The Blues will be disappointed with the result after failing to hold onto the lead twice, but West Brom played well and deserved their point.
