Antione Griezmann has quelled rumours that he will swapping the red and white of Atletico Madrid for the blue of Chelsea in the summer.

It would be a real coup for the Blues

The former Real Sociedad forward has been linked with a move to the capital for a number of transfer windows now, but apparently it is just a rumour. The Atletico president Enrique Cerezo has stated that, “No-one has spoken to use about a possible transfer.”

It is easy to see why Chelsea would be interested in a move for the French international. Greizmann has already scored 19 goals for his side this season, eight goals ahead of the Blues’ top scorer and former Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa.

Yet it appears that the Frenchman is quite settled where he is. Claiming that as long as the club are not in a position where the want to sell him, he will be happy to stay.

Griezmann joined Madrid in 2014 and is still contracted to the club until 2020, with the solid performances that he is putting in for his side it is difficult to see why the club would sell him.

The clubs have a relationship

Chelsea already have a history of signing players from Atletico. Costa himself was brought in during the summer of 2014, along with teammate Filipe Luis. The latter of which was re-signed by the Spanish club after failing to nail down a first team slot with the Blues.

Fernando Torres spent four years at Stamford Bridge before finding himself back at his boyhood club presumably seeing out the rest of his career with Atletico Madrid.

Thibaut Courtois spent three seasons on loan at the Vicente Calderon after joining Chelsea from Belgian club Genk in 2011. The Belgian international racked up over 100 league appearances for Diego Simeone's side. Courtois has since gone on to be one of the finest goalkeepers in world football at the young age of 23.
