After many days of speculation, Crystal Palace have announced the appointment of now former Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew.

Once he refused to speak to the media after his former Newcastle side defeated Everton 3-2, speculation started to form amongst the football world as he had strong links at Crystal Palace due to a four-year spell there as a player, and they had recently became managerless because of the sacking of Neil Warnock.

Newcastle allowed their former manager to speak to his new employers shortly after the victory over Everton, which led to the agreement of compensation for Pardew to take the vacant position as manager of Crystal Palace.

Statements were shortly released by Newcastle, stating that assistant manager John Carver would take training on Tuesday due to Pardew holding talks with Palace.

Keith Millen, the caretaker manager at Palace prior to Pardew's appointment, gave his support to Pardew saying that he was a good fit for Palace due to his "terrific track record". Millen also went on to say, "If Alan gets the job you understand why because of his track record and experience.

"I'm sure the fans will remember Alan with fond memories from what he's done here, so there's a strong link there.

"I admire his record. I'm not sure how many of the staff he knows, so it would be a new person coming in with new ideas. That always gives the place a lift anyway.

"The background to the club is quite stable, but the manager has changed too many times, without a doubt."

On New Year's day it looked a certainty that Pardew would become Palace boss as he watched his new side draw 0-0 against Aston Villa away at Villa Park, whilst Carver was put in charge of Newcastle in their 3-3 draw to Burnley.

Pardew leaves Newcastle with them sitting in 10th place in the Premier League after spending the last 4 years in charge of the Tyneside club.

His new side sit in 18th place, after going eight games without a league win has seen them slip into the relegation zone. However, caretaker boss Millen has siad that he has been preparing his new side for their FA Cup clash against Dover Athletic of the Conference, that takes place this Sunday.

"We're preparing for the game on Sunday and I'm sure Alan will be taking the game. He'll be taking training on Saturday."

He may have to wait for his first Premier League victory as Palace manager, as his first Premier League game is against Tottenham at home, who recently defeated league leaders Chelsea convincingly in a 5-3 win.

For now his focus shall remain on the FA Cup clash this weekend, where he'll look to avoid an embarrassing early exit.
