Following Leicester City's outstanding 3-1 victory over Manchester City on Saturday afternoon, the Foxes have announced that striker Jamie Vardy has signed a new long-term deal at the King Power Stadium.
This comes as yet another boost to the league-leaders with them also going five points clear at the top of the Premier League as a result of their win at the Etihad Stadium at the weekend.
Not going anywhere
With his previous deal coming to an end in the summer of 2018, Claudio Ranieri's team have swiftly moved to secure the England international's signature for the foreseeable future. As a matter of fact, the former Fleetwood Town man will now be donning the royal blue of Leicester City until at least June 2019.
This also ends a few months of speculation linking the 29-year-old forward with a move away. In recent times, Vardy has reportedly being attracting attention from the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and even Real Madrid. However, an imminent transfer now looks increasingly unlikely with the current Premier League top goal-scorer looking set to stay in the Midlands.
Key man
Since arriving in Leicestershire in 2012 under Nigel Pearson, Vardy has become a crucial player in the Leicester City team. Constantly using his terrifying pace and sharp finishing ability, the former Sheffield Wednesday trainee has become the scourge of Championship and Premier League defences alike.
Making over 130 appearances for the Midlanders and scoring 44 goals (alongside 30 assists) in his three and a half years at the club, he has become an increasingly popular figure on the terraces of the King Power Stadium.
Nevertheless, it's only in the past six months that he has burst onto the scene. Already this season, the speedy forward has managed to score an astounding total of 18 top-flight league goals and leads the way in the Premier League scoring charts. Furthermore, the ex-Conference man has also been able to break the long-standing record of scoring in consecutive league games by netting in 11 back-to-back appearances (previously standing at 10 thanks to Ruud van Nistlerooy).
So, it goes without saying that supporters will be delighted to know that Vardy is planning on staying with the current league-leaders.
Happy to stay
Talking of his new contract to the Foxes' official website, the four-time England international has revealed that he is "delighted" to commit his future to Leicester City.
Also saying that he will "spend every day working" to repay the faith that the club has put him in since spending approximately £1million pounds to secure his services, it's clear to see that Vardy is not looking to end his scoring spree anytime soon.
