After thrashing Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, Liverpool stormed to the top of the Premier League with only 6 games left to play. On 71 points they have now played the same number of games as Chelsea who are only lagging 2 points behind, but with Manchester City on 67 with 2 games in hand, Liverpool may be in for a nasty surprise. The question on everyone’s lips is: can they go on and win the Premier League?

They next face a West Ham side currently in 11th place with 37 points, and with Liverpool’s current sparkling form, is there even a glimmer of hope for the Hammers, or will they be added to the long list of those swept aside by this top, top Liverpool XI? With their deadly strike-partnership of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge on the prowl, their hunger for success and thirst for goals will undoubtedly be on the up, in order for them to keep their title hopes alive. It is also certain that after their recent run of 8 wins on the trot, Liverpool will be brimming with confidence going into this fixture.

West Ham United however, having won 3 out of their last 6 games, will need their home crowd 110% behind them just to drown out the chants of “we’re gonna win the league” from the travelling Kop – a sound that strikes fear into their opponents. Also, after visiting Anfield earlier in the season and having left feeling pretty wounded after a 4-1 defeat, they will be hoping to learn from their past mistakes in order to even try and overcome this ever-improving Liverpool side.

This is the closest Liverpool have been to winning the title for a long time and will be wanting to win it for their world class captain, Steven Gerrard, who gives his all week in, week out, and fully deserves the Premier League medal he has always dreamed of. With Martin Skrtel and Daniel Agger amongst some of the players who have been showing some solid performances recently, it will be expected that Liverpool will walk away from this clash victorious, but with Brendan Rodger’s side still to play Chelsea and Man City, it won’t be an easy ride.

The main man, Luis Suarez, is now only 1 goal away from 30, and not far from being one of the best strikers the Premier League has ever seen. Will he add to his extremely impressive goal tally this Sunday? We’ll have to wait and see.
