Europa League winners Sevilla look set to take Iago Aspas on a season-long loan from Liverpool, according to Sky Spors sources.
The 26-year-old arrived at Anfield from Celta Viga in June last summer for a fee of around £7.6 million but he has since struggled to adapt to the Premier League despite a promising pre-season, and consequently his days in England now look numbered.
Aspas started just six matches for Liverpool last season and scored his only competitive goal for the team in the 2-0 victory over Oldham in the FA Cup. Overall he had a campaign to forget, with Liverpool fans not so disappointed to see him on his way out.
He will now return to Spain after a torrid year in England, with Sevilla closing in on the forward. During his previous spell in Spain with Celta Vigo, Aspas scored 46 goals in 136 appearances for the club and time will tell as to whether a good season there would mean he returns to the Merseyside club or earns himself a permanent return to Spain.
Liverpool chief executive Ian Ayre has travelled to Seville to conduct negotiations with the club. According to Marca, Aspas has agreed personal terms with Sevilla, all that remains is working out a deal which involves Alberto Moreno, the long-term left-back target that Liverpool are interested in buying from the Spanish side.
Moreno was a huge part of the 5th place La Liga side last season, but they are said to be willing to let him go for £18 million. The Reds are keen on a deal involving Aspas to lessen the cash sum, but Sevilla reportedly prefer separate deals.
