Liverpool FC teenage talent Sheyi Ojo is enjoying life on loan at Wigan Athletic.

The Academy prospect, who joined from Milton Keynes Dons back in 2011, has been on loan at the Championship side since January - making six starts, with a single assist to his name so far.

The 17-year-old is one of the brightest sparks in the Liverpool set-up, having earned spots on the bench for Brendan Rodgers' first-team over the Christmas period, and hopes his time at the DW Stadium will help fuel his long-term goals.

"It’s been a good experience for me playing against men and in bigger stadiums in front of 20,000 people," said Ojo, speaking to the Daily Mirror.

"It’s obviously different to what I was used to - a lot more physical and high pressure in terms of wins and the need for results but it’s gone well so far.

"The main thing they said to me at Liverpool before I went out was it was just about getting the experience of being in a first-team changing room.

"I’ve got high ambitions and aims here at Wigan and I want to get as many goals and assists as possible.

"At Liverpool I had been playing a lot with the younger age groups (mainly the U21s) and now I’m with the first team on a more permanent basis so it's been a good experience."

Ojo has impressed for Malky Mackay's struggling side, adding that he is learning a lot from the basement battle he is currently involved in.

"It’s nice to have made a good impression and got man-of-the-match a couple of times but I want to keep improving and just do whatever I can to help the team and get results," he said.

"Being around the bottom of the league there are certain games you’ve got to fight and it’s not really pretty football but that helps me.

"I’m more of a player that likes to get on the ball," Ojo continued "But I’ve got to change the way I’m playing because of the situation and that helps me in terms of my experience and development.

"The most important thing is winning games to stay out of that relegation zone."

Having been on the peripheral of Rodgers' Premier League side, Ojo is hoping that the experience he has gained at a lower level will help him follow in the footsteps of highly-rated Liverpool attacks Raheem Sterling and Jordon Ibe, who had to fight before making their impression at Anfield.

"Them being in the first team gives me good hope that it could be me if I do well," Ojo said. "Hopefully I can make the most of being on loan and when I am back at Liverpool I’m an improved player ready to be involved with the first team."
