Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has been ruled out of England's two upcoming games with a hip injury.
The 25-year-old played the full 90 minutes and scored his side's goal in a 2-1 loss against Manchester United in the Barclays Premier League on Sunday, but has been ruled out after scans revealed he sustained an injury in the same game.
As a result, Sturridge misses his country's 2016 European Championships Qualifier against Lithuania and a friendly versus Italy in Turin four days later.
It is not yet known whether the severity of the injury will mean he misses any further club games. Scans are likely to be passed on to the Reds after he was assessed at St. George's Park on Monday afternoon.
The striker joins a long list of absentees, as Roy Hodgson's side continues to thin out. Liverpool team-mate Adam Lallana is out of action after sustaining a groin injury against United, whilst Raheem Sterling has been nursing a toe injury through recent games and may be rested.
Elsewhere, Fraser Forster is out with a knee injury and Luke Shaw has also withdrawn. Spurs duo Ryan Mason and Danny Rose have been called up as replacements, as has Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Robert Green.
Sturridge's absence could see Harry Kane given a starting debut in England's Group E clash with Lithuania. The Three Lions lead their group by six points, having won all four of their games so far.
