Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has spoken of his desire to stay at the club for the foreseeable future amidst fears over his future.

The ex-Sunderland midfielder has yet to agree to an extension on his current contract which runs out next summer, as his representatives and the club struggle to agree on the player's wages.

But Henderson, whose recent form has earned him plenty of admirers on Merseyside and elsewhere, has insisted he is not looking for a move elsewhere.

"It’s definitely not (a major issue)," Henderson said, when asked about his contract situation. "I love playing football for Liverpool and I want to be there for many years.

"In terms of my contract, I think everybody else will make a big deal of it but for me it’s just letting my agent and the club deal with it and whenever it gets sorted, it gets sorted. All I want to do is my best for club and country."

Henderson was speaking having recently helped England maintain their 100% record in Euro 2016 qualifying. But the 24-year-old, who will be aiming to help the Three Lions avenge their 2014 World Cup loss to Italy on Thursday - is hopeful that his club can see out the rest of the 2014-15 season in a successful manner.

He said: "At Liverpool we’ve got fantastic players, real quality players and a lot of potential.

"We’re a young team and I think there is great potential and a big part of us is wanting to be winners and winning trophies. I really feel we can do that.

"It is the same with England. I really feel we are going in the right direction and hopefully in the next Euros we can do something special."

Liverpool still have the Champions League spots in the league and a trip to Wembley in the FA Cup to contend for, and Henderson is sure to play an important part if Brendan Rodgers' side are to make anything of the current campaign.

But the weight of expectation has never fazed Henderson at Liverpool so far and it will not during the final games of the season, despite the fact that he is likely to take over from the Reds' current captain Steven Gerrard in the summer.

Despite the pressure of the full-time captaincy, Henderson has learned a lot from his experienced compatriot before he leaves for LA Galaxy in July.

"When I first came to the club he was brilliant with us," he said.

"When I wasn’t playing so much, he was just the same, helping us on the field with what I needed to do and improve on. And also off the field, he’s brilliant.

"He’s just got this sort of presence about him, that real leadership.

"He’s just a real humble person as well, which is amazing really, for all the young players at Liverpool. I’m sure everybody there has learnt a lot from him."
