Liverpool have agreed a deal with Southampton for defender Nathaniel Clyne, after having their recent £12.5 million bid accepted.

The full-back is currently on holiday in Las Vegas, but upon his return will travel to Liverpool to agree personal terms and undergo a medical to secure his move, after being granted permission to do so by the Saints.

Clyne is set to sign a five-year deal at Anfield, with his current contract at St Mary's set to run out next summer - forcing Ronald Koeman's side to settle for less than their £15 million asking price to avoid risking losing the England international for nothing further down the line.

Clyne set to become sixth Liverpool addition of the summer

The agreed deal is believed to be £10.5 million up-front, with a further £2 million in add-ons, after the Reds had an opening bid in the region of £10 million rejected earlier this month.

It takes Liverpool's spending over the last 24 hours up to £41 million after the Reds completed a deal for Brazilian playmaker Roberto Firmino to switch Hoffenheim for Merseyside.

The 24-year-old will become the Reds' sixth signing of the summer, after James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan, Joe Gomez and Firmino.

But the Reds are also being linked with moves for a striker and another midfielder, with Carlos Bacca believed to be one name the Premier League side are watching at the Copa America in Chile.

Clyne also becomes the fourth Saints player to make the move north from the South Coast to work with Brendan Rodgers, following ex-teammates Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren - all of whom currently still remain with Liverpool.

Southampton appear to have already signed a suitable replacement for Clyne, after sealing a deal for Sporting Lisbon right-back Cedric Soares last week.
