Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has heaped praise upon the mentality of striker Danny Ings, after he netted his first goal for the club on Monday.

Goal number one for Ings

With time ticking down against Adelaide United in their friendly encounter, Ings recieved Nathaniel Clyne's pass, rounded the 'keeper and slotted home to give Liverpool a 2-0 win.

The forward had come close previously in the game to grabbing his first goal for the Reds, and Rodgers admitted it was testament to his determination that he finally got it.

"It will do well for his condfidence," quipped the Ulsterman after the game. He told of how Ings had "worked very hard" since coming into the club, and "really threatened in behind" against the Australian team.

On the goal itself, Rodgers was keen to praise the "dead weight" pass provided by Clyne, and was pleased with the decision Ings made to go round the goalkeeper, adding that "when you get goals in pre-season it gives you confidence, so I'm delighted for him".

The next step

The win over Adelaide followed up victories against True Thai All Star's and Brisbane Roar, meaning the Reds have so far secured three wins out of three ahead of the new season, something which has delighted their manager.

"I thought our performance was very good against a very well organised team that play excellent football," said Rodgers, before adding, "I thought our performance was very good against a very well organised team that play excellent football."

Unsurpringly explaining that fitness levels are a key part of the process Liverpool are currently going through, Rodgers stated "I thought our set up was good. The objective tonight we achieved which was to develop our fitness."
