Liverpool have spent more than £80 million this summer already, but the Reds boss has said that there is no additional pressure to his job despite that.

Brendan Rodgers says that he feels no excess pressure, despite another summer of spending vast amounts in order to strengthen his squad.

The Liverpool manager owned up to needing some time off after a disastrous end to the season, following the embarassing 6-1 loss to Stoke City on the final day of the season.

Despite this, Rodgers has said he is back and ready to lead his side back to where they belong and he has also applauded the owners for backing him with the signings they have made this summer.

Liverpool have made seven new signings so far this summer, two of which amounted to over £60 million as Christian Benteke cost the club £32.5 million, whereas the Reds also had to pay £29 million for Roberto Firmino

Speaking after his side drew 1-1 against a Malaysian XI, Rodgers insisted that the pressure on him and his side side to succeed "is no different to any other season."

He added that "there is no question" over how "bitterly disappointed" he was at the end of last term, as the Reds finished sixth.

Rodgers continued: "The owners have been very supportive of me since the time they wanted me to be manager.

"I understand we need to be much better than what we were last season.

"I think it was hugely disappointing at the end of last season. For the first time, I felt that I needed the break."

Reds' boss pleased with summer recruitment

Rodgers also admitted there were areas in the squad that needed to be urgently addressed, and now believes that those areas of weakness have be resolved.

"We needed to improve the squad," the Northern Irishman stated. "When you are at a top team, any manager will tell you that you want to improve the club.

"We have made signings and we hope they'll come in and make a huge impact."

Liverpool's new signings Christian Benteke and Roberto Firmino are set to join up with their new squad once the Reds arrive back in training off the back of their pre-season tour.

Philippe Coutinho and Emre Can, who were given extended breaks, will also join up with their team-mates with two more friendlies in store before they face Stoke City in their season opener next month.
