Liverpool have ample strength in their squad to travel to the Emirates Stadium and take the game to Arsenal on Monday night, according to Brendan Rodgers.

The Reds struggled woefully against their top-four rivals last season, taking five points from a possible 24, whilst their record away at Arsenal doesn't make much better reading.

The Gunners humbled Rodgers' side 4-1 back in April, and have only succumbed to defeat once against the Reds since moving to the Emirates nine years ago.

But off the back of summer's squad and staff overhaul, a new-look Liverpool look to have turned a page - winning the last two games against Stoke City and Bournemouth to boast maximum points two weeks into the campaign.

Rodgers says Liverpool have qualities to hurt Gunners

Referring back to last season, Rodgers said the beginning of the 2014-15 season was "disappointing" because the Reds "never really got going" which helped lead to their abysmal points total against the "top teams."

But the Northern Irishman says that his side have put last season well in the past, and that they "go into the games now with confidence."

He insisted the trip to Arsenal "is going to be a difficult game" but that they have "the strength and the character" in their squad to challenge the Gunners.

Rodgers said Liverpool are "very focused" on working well and the experience brought into the team, amongst the other "different threats" which the likes of Christian Benteke add, "can hurt teams" in addition to their "footballing qualities."

The Reds boss added that there are "other attributes and facets" of their game that gives them unpredictability in order to earn results and win games.

Rodgers aiming for mental strength to last throughout the campaign

Though many of Liverpool's summer signings have only been in the squad for a few months, Rodgers added that he is pleased to see the camaraderie they have already chalked up with their new team-mates.

After the Reds were accused of being mentally weak as their top-four charge fell away in spectacular fashion last season, the Liverpool manager believes the characteristics his new signings have brought in will provide a major boost throughout the year.

He explained that he's seen a group who are winners and show the characteristics of winners with the "consistency in their work and their level of focus.

Rodgers added that is something they must ensure "lasts throughout the season" because they've made a good start "in terms of results" and they've showed "resilience and character" in abundance.

Having seen his side's form improve in the second half of the season in the first years of his Liverpool tenure, Rodgers continued to say that he is aiming for their football to "get better and better" - saying that "the consistency will come" and if they can mix all those qualities, they can "have a good season."

"Up to them" whether signings make their mark on Merseyside

Jordan Henderson is a major doubt for the trip to Arsenal, with the skipper having picked up a foot injury - and Emre Can and Lucas Leiva are in the picture to replace him in midfield.

The Brazilian midfielder, who has been linked with a move away from Anfield, won't be joined by Mario Balotelli - another who looks likely to leave the club.

The Italian has been linked with a return to AC Milan on loan, just 12 months after moving from San Siro to Merseyside in a £16 million switch.

The Reds are keen to get the striker off the books, and asked about his situation, Rodgers responded that "every player that comes in" to the club "will be respected" and that they aim to bring in "good players" - with it "entirely up to them" whether they are a success.
