Adam Lallana has been dealt a major blow after being ruled out of Liverpool's trip to Arsenal with a thigh injury.

Whilst the length of the injury is as of yet unknown, the 27-year-old is a doubt for the coming England international fixtures next month - and the knock could keep him out for three to four weeks if it is revealed to be serious.

Lallana's Liverpool career yet to kickstart due to injuries

The Englishman's first year on Merseyside was riddled with injuries, which restricted him to 27 league appearances, in which he scored five goals.

The hopes this season were that Lallana would get a strong pre-season under his belt and really kick on, and after scoring twice in five games throughout a promising summer tour, things looked set for the midfielder to push on and make his mark.

But the injury, likely to have been picked up in training in mid-week, will curtail his progress yet again.

A knee ligament injury kept him out of the entire of Liverpool's 2014 pre-season campaign after he made the £25 million switch from Southampton in July.

But his entire campaign continued to be limited by unfortunate injuries, which put him out of action every time he seemed to be finding some form.

Lallana injury likely to mean game-time for Firmino

He was a starter in both of Liverpool's games so far this season, helping the Reds to wins over Stoke City and Bournemouth, but is now set to miss a number of clashes.

In his place, Roberto Firmino has been earmarked for his first Liverpool start - having only made cameos off of the bench thus far. The Brazilian signed from Hoffenheim in a £29 million deal in the summer.

The injury could also pave way for Lazar Markovic to return to the matchday squad, with the young Serbian having fallen out of favour under Brendan Rodgers of late.

Lallana could miss the Reds' fixtures against West Ham United next weekend, whilst he's a doubt for England's clashes against San Marino and Switzerland. He could also be a doubt for their trip to Manchester United on September 12.
