James Milner "enjoying" life at Liverpool very much after strong start to the season

James Milner says he's "enjoying it very much" after his summer move to Liverpool FC, which has so far seen him play a pivotal role in central midfield in their first three games - taking the captain's armband against Arsenal on Monday night, in place of absentee Jordan Henderson.

James Milner took no time at all to become an important first-team member at Liverpool FC and with seven points from nine already on the board, insists he has no regrets about leaving league leaders Manchester City.

The experienced midfielder was snapped on a free transfer in early June and Milner has since become a fundamental part of Brendan Rodgers' overhauled side.

That was clearly indicated when the 29-year-old was made vice-captain by the Northern Irishman a day before their league opener and he filled in for injured skipper Jordan Henderson against Arsenal earlier this week.

Milner was a crucial part of the Reds' side, producing a phenomenal performance as they came away with their first point from the Emirates Stadium in four years.

The goalless draw helped Liverpool maintain an unbeaten run which sees them sit third in the league, behind only Milner's former employers Manchester City on points.

But though Manuel Pelligrini's men have registered three wins from three so far, Milner insists he has no regrets about moving to Anfield.

Milner not regretting Liverpool switch

He admitted that though he's watched City on TV, he "might have been watching them sitting on the bench" if he had stayed in Manchester.

The Yorkshireman added that is the decision he has made and he is "delighted" to have joined Liverpool and has been "enjoying every minute" amongst his new team-mates.

Milner, who has been in the top-flight for 16 of his 17 professional years - the other of which was spent on loan, said Liverpool is "a club used to winning" and that the fans "expect to win" in every game which he said is a "nice pressure" to have.

Midfielder pleased with Reds' squad strength

Milner had a number of possible clubs to choose from as he searched for increased game-time in his preferred role in central midfield, but was swayed by Rodgers after a meeting with the Reds boss.

He admitted he is "enjoying it very much" and his game-time, and the results Liverpool have acquired so far, is why he came to the club.

The England international said it is good to be among a mix of players that includes "good, experienced players" and a "blend of English talents and foreign players" as it provides a "strong balance."

He also said that Rodgers' summer recruitment has ensured "everything is there" when you "look down the squad list and on the bench."

Milner said such squad strength means Liverpool can compete in their four competitions, stating that a good squad is a requisite "to do anything."

29-year-old hails Arsenal performance but says improvements still to be made

Their new-look resilience and strength was showcased as the Reds came close to beating Arsenal, with only Petr Cech preventing a goal in the first-half - as Philippe Coutinho twice struck the woodwork and Christian Benteke came close.

Nevertheless, the point taken from a positive performance will only help Liverpool to improve in the long run, according to the midfielder.

He declared that "any time" you can come away disappointed with just a point from North London "is a good night" and that it proved "there are very promising signs."

Milner insisted that "it will take time" for Liverpool to find the best of their form, saying that the performance against the Gunners wasn't "anywhere near" the best they can play, but it was another "improvement."

He hailed their defensive solidity, saying their back-four were "brilliant again" and that their fluidity going forward was also promising.

Reds not wanting to limit season ambitions

The veteran, who scored twice in a strong pre-season campaign in the summer, added that they will only "get better and better" with the more games they play together, but that to go to a place such as Arsenal and play so well "was pleasing."

And Milner should know, given that he won five trophies in a five year spell with City, including two Premier League titles.

But he believes Liverpool will have to wait and see until the end of the season if they are to be genuine title contenders, stating that "it is an exciting time to be at the club" regardless.

He referred to the mass of changes "on and off the field" made throughout the summer, which means "it will take time" for Liverpool to get to their best.

As such, he said it is satisfying to have started the campaign with three clean sheets and two wins, but said they "don't want to put any targets" on their amibitions as their are "more and more" improvements still to be made.
