Liverpool FC goalkeeper Lawrence Vigouroux has returned to the club from his season-long loan spell with Swindon Town after a "disciplinary internal matter."

The impressive Chilean was dropped by Robins' boss Mark Cooper for their  2-1 defeat to Colchester United, as Tyrell Belford - who had only previously played in the Johnstones Paint Trophy this season - took his place between the sticks.

Afterwards, he revealed nothing more than the shot-stopper's absence as a "disciplinary matter" - which is believed to have stemmed from the fact that Vigouroux was an hour late for a training session last week.

But after returning to Merseyside for a meeting, the decision has been taken to re-call the goalkeeper just two months into his year-long stay at the County Ground, with the player's relations with the League One club presumably having broken down after the matter.

As such, it brings his spell to an abrupt end and leaves Swindon with just one senior goalkeeper - but Vigouroux, who signed a two-year contract extension with the Reds in May, could find himself out on loan again in the near future.

Vigouroux cuts short Swindon stay despite impressive form

The 21-year-old, who turns 22 next month, had impressed enough on trial, in which he played against his parent club in a pre-season friendly and earned the Man of the Match award, in order to persuade Cooper to sign him for the season.

He went straight into the starting line-up and made an ideal impression on his competitive debut, saving a penalty when Swindon found themselves 1-0 down to Bradford City, before they went on to record a 4-1 opening day victory.

Vigouroux made a further nine appearances in all competitions and impressed with some excellent saves throughout his stay, the most notable of which helped preserve wins away at Southend United and Crewe Alexandra.

Despite conceding an increasing number of goals before his loan spell was cut short, little blame was assigned to the goalkeeper - who had impressed on SN1.

He is likely to return to Melwood to train alongside senior Liverpool goalkeepers Simon Mignolet and Adam Bogdan until another loan can be arranged.

The custodian initially started out life at Brentford before signing for Tottenham Hotspur in 2012. After a loan spell with Hyde, Spurs released the goalkeeper in the summer of 2014 before Liverpool signed him after a successful trial period.
