Liverpool stormed back from going a goal down to defeat Southampton 6-1 in the Capital One Cup quarter-final, in a brilliant display of dominance from Jürgen Klopp's side.

Divock Origi bagged a hat-trick whilst Daniel Sturridge scored a brace on his first start under the German, whilst Jordon Ibe added another as Liverpool scored three in each half.

Saints score straight away

It was a brilliant start for Southampton as Ryan Bertrand's looping cross on the edge of the box was met by a leaping header from Saido Mane in the 1st minute of play, sending the home crowd wild.

Liverpool would continue to be overrun early on particularly right back Connor Randall, with their pressing giving way to several Southampton counter attacks as they tried to put together a period of possession.

The youngster continued to show his inexperience early in the first half, receiving a yellow card for a push on Dusan Tadic in the 8th minute of play.

The resulting free kick was however put high and wide by Steven Davis and following a series of passes, Southampton's dominance would however be shortlived.

Liverpool regained some possession as the first half went on but failed to create many chances as much of it was in their own half.

Emre Can marked the first real attacking play for Liverpool in the match in the 24th minute but his cross failed to find the head of Divock Origi much to the chagrin of Liverpool fans.

Sturridge shows quality with two quick goals

The key moment would come for Liverpool just moments later when Joe Allen's brilliant throughly ball found the feet of Daniel Sturridge who beat his defender and slotted home from a close angle to level it at 1-1 in the 26th minute.

Southampton pushed to go back in front soon after but Skrtel did well to head Davis' free kick out of danger.

It would however be Liverpool who took the lead in the 28th minute. Emre Can's outside of the foot through ball found the run of Sturridge in between two defenders who classily slotted home once again.

Buoyed by his assist minutes before, Emre Can tried his luck with a shot from the edge of the box in the 32nd minute but skied it comically. Liverpool would continue their good spell of possession to end the first half as Randall earned Liverpool a corner after his shot was saved by Martin Stekelenburg.

Moreno or Origi? They didn't care as LFC went 3-1 up

The subsequent corner was then  hit to Sturridge who laid it off to Moreno on the edge of the box for the Spaniard to smash it toward goal before it took a touch off of Origi for a goal in the 45th minute.

Southampton would start the second half in aggressive fashion, pressing Liverpool high up the pitch as well as having switched to a back three with Victor Wanyama dropping into central defense, a decision which would ultimately cost them later in the match.

It looked to have paid off when Tadic's pass over the top of the Liverpool defense found Graziano Pelle, but Pelle's shot was caught with ease by Adam Bogdan in the 50th minute.

Liverpool would however get themselves involved offensively as Adam Lallana turned away from his defender in the 55th minute but his shot didn't trouble Stekelenburg as it went out for a goal kick.

Southampton would respond immediately  as Pelle played Mane into the box but his shot was blocked well by Lovren.

Ten minutes later, substitute Shane Long nearly had an immediate effect having met Tadic's cross with his head, but the Republic of Ireland striker's head went wide of goal in the 65th minute.

Reds finish things off in the final quarter

Liverpool would however continue to pile on the misery for Southampton in the 68th minute, seemingly confirming their spot in the semi-final's, as Jordan Ibe squeezed a pass through to Divock Origi, who smashed home his second goal on the night to make it 4-1 for the visitors.

Liverpool would then cap off a dream performance in the 73rd minute, when Moreno overlapped from the wing following a back heel from Origi and his cross was chested down and hit beautifully into the goal by Jordan Ibe.

Much to the surprise of Liverpool and Southampton fans alike, minutes before the final whistle Liverpool would get yet another goal. Brad Smith blazed down the left wing and sent an inch perfect cross to the head of Origi who headed home for a hat trick on the night.

The result confirms Liverpool's place in the Semi-finals of the Capital One Cup where they'll face arguably the "easiest" opponent available, Stoke City,  as well as Liverpool's increasingly brilliant form under manager Jurgen Klopp.

Additionally, Emre Can's yellow card means he will be unavailable for the Newcastle United match at the weekend due to yellow card accumulation.
