According to Tuttomercatoweb in Italy, Manchester City are weighing up a January bid for Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuaín.

The Premier League champions are searching for a replacement for Álvaro Negredo who joined Valencia on a season-long loan on deadline day, and have reportedly prioritised the 26-year-old Argentine.

Higuaín joined Napoli in a £29m deal from Real Madrid last summer, but after crashing out of the Champions League in a 4-2 aggregate loss to Athletic Bilbao in a play-off, the striker could be tempted by the lure of Europe at the Etihad Stadium.

Napoli are reluctant to part with the forward who scored 17 goals and registered seven assists last term.
