Manchester City left-back Aleksandar Kolarov has started the 2015/16 campaign off rather impressively, and his displays are not going un-noticed. With the full-back predicament meaning manager Manuel Pellegrini has a selection dilemma almost every weekend, the 29-year-old Serbian is doing his best to force his way into the City first-team on a regular basis.

Kolarov, who turns 30 in November, has been in Eastlands for just over five years now. Naturally, he wants to play every week - and although that's not often practical given the amount of matches from various competitions that the Citizens compete for, as well as the squad rotation that occurs from time-to-time, he needs to be playing regularly.

Competition for places gives Pellegrini a welcome headache

He made 34 appearances in the 2014/15 term, most of which were either international caps or in domestic competitions. From a City perspective though, he's often been shifted out of the left-back berth by Gäel Clichy, so there is evidently competition for places.

This being said though, he's started all three of City's league fixtures thus far in the new season - and done himself justice too. With a goal against Everton on the weekend, it was yet another message to Pellegrini that although he may be getting older, he's maturing with age.

Kolarov's impressive displays a marker for regular chances

Especially against Chelsea, he showed his defensive capabilities - which are often overlooked - are improving. He showed a willingness to get back and help his team-mates whenever they were out of possession, and his threat going forward has never been questioned. His build-up play and movement on the left-hand side alongside Raheem Sterling has been a joy to watch, and although they've only been team-mates for a month-and-a-half, you'd thought they were seasoned veterans in the side together.

When questioned by the media, Kolarov stated he just needs to "play regularly, to show what I can do."

On his link-up play on the left, he also said that "David and Sterling are massive players so for me, it's easy to play with them."

City fans will be hoping he can continue his vein of consistent performances, because he's been rather impressive.
