The news that every Manchester City supporter was dreading going into the weekend - the club's talisman and star striker, Sergio Agüero, has been sidelined for up to eight weeks after picking up another unfortunate injury on international break with his native Argentina.

Just a week after scoring a fantastic five during their 6-1 thrashing over Newcastle, this is the 27-year-old's tenth injury since August of 2012 - having missed over 200 competitive days of football during that time.

Agüero's injury extremely unfortunate, especially given the timing

Due to the extent of the injury itself, it's hard to speculate how long Sergio will actually be out for, between two and eight weeks of rest and recovery time. It's unfortunate timing for the Argentinian, especially given the fact that he's just been gradually improving his goal-scoring form of late after a stuttering start to the 2015/16 campaign.

If he is sidelined for eight weeks, he'll miss a whole host of crunch matches during that period. City's next two UEFA Champions League matches against Europa League winners Sevilla, as well as the Manchester Derby, are the three most notable fixtures he'd miss.

Sergio hopeful to recover quickly

As quoted by Agüero on his official website, the forward said that he'll "head to the national team's training facilities", in order to start his treatment. "It'll probably take a month to recover from the tear, although it depends on how it [the injury] evolves."

Although, he admitted that he was also "playing too often", to the "very last minute", so was unsure whether to "go for it" in terms of challenges and duels for the ball, or take a more laboured approach towards the final-whistle in a match.

But naturally, you'd hope he does not rush himself back to full fitness - as he could suffer an ongoing issue or aggravate his injury if he tries to force himself back and he isn't ready.

City's strikeforce seemingly bare

Agüero out, Manuel Pellegrini has an upcoming selection headache on his hands. Does he start Wilfried Bony, in the hope that the powerful Ivorian grabs himself a morale-boosting goal and get a good run of form under his belt? The former Swansea man deserves it, for sure, after all of the criticism he's had since his January switch.

Or, does he opt for youth? Kelechi Iheanacho turned 19 last week, and netted his first Premier League goal in the dying seconds of their narrow win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. He's already proven that he is too good for youth football, and deserved his call-up to the first-team. Will he get his chance centre-stage this term though?
