Manchester United have secured the signing of 17-year-old Josh Doughty, according to reports.

The Canadian youth international confirmed that he was having a medical at Carrington ahead of a proposed move on social networking site Twitter, and reports have since suggested the youngster could be the latest figure to join the Red Devils.

The midfielder, who most recently featured for Real Salt Lake Academy, is predominantly a central midfielder, but can also operate on the wing if required.

While there has been no official confirmation or statement released by the club, Doughty’s biography on Twitter reads, “In Manchester”.

Doughty has confirmed he is able to represent Canada, England, and potentially the USA in the future, but is yet to decide his international allegiance.

Turning 18 in April, Doughty would be expected to feature for the Academy and Under-21 sides upon arriving – although manager Louis van Gaal has become known for giving debuts to youngsters, and believing that youth is the way forward.

Doughty is currently rated as one of the best young forwards around, having impressed following a string of phenomenal appearances for the Real Salt Lake youth team.

And despite apparent interest from Barcelona, Doughty looks to have sealed the deal with the Red Devils, and for a minimal compensation fee.

Sebastian Saucedo, a footballer for Real Salt Lake and the United States Under-18 national team, wished Doughty all the best ahead of his proposed move. He said:

“Brother I wanted to congratulate you and wish you nothing but the best at ManU [sic]. Enjoyed some of the best moments with you.”

Corey Baird, a member of the United States Under-20 national team also praised the 17-year-old, adding upon news of his move:

“That’s unreal bro, good luck and kill it there.”

He will be the second youngster spotted by the scouting network of Van Gaal, following the arrival of Dutch defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah.

Manchester United are expected to make a potential announcement within the coming days, as Doughty looks to have clarified that the proposed move is completed.
