Manchester United central midfielder Joe Rothwell has joined Championship strugglers Blackpool on loan for the remainder of the season.
The 20-year-old has trained with the first-team under the guidance of Louis van Gaal since December, and has impressed enough to earn a loan move to the second tier side.
Having featured regularly for the youth set-up and England Under-20 national side, Rothwell will now gain his biggest experience to date with regular first-team action with a senior side.
Predominantly featuring for the Under-21’s, the midfielder hit a brace against Blackburn Rovers earlier in the season, guiding his side to a 5-0 victory in the Lancashire senior Cup.
He is now the second midfielder to complete a move during the January transfer window, after fellow Under-21’s teammate Ben Pearson secured a deal with Barnsley, albeit for a single month in comparison to Rothwell’s four-month switch.
Rothwell will hope to feature enough to impress manager van Gaal and potentially earn a start at Old Trafford next season.
