Manchester United midfielder Ben Pearson has extended his loan with League One outfit Barnsley for another month, following a number of impressive performances.

The 20-year-old featured five times for the Tykes in his initial loan spell, and settled in instantly, claiming the Man of the Match award on his professional debut for the club.

He also went on to score his first ever professional goal during the loan spell, netting in a 2-1 victory over Port Vale in late January. Collecting the ball on the edge of his own box, the central midfielder drove forward at pace, before his deflected effort looped over Port Vale’s goalkeeper to conclude a remarkable 70 yard run.

Pearson quickly established himself as an important player in the Barnsley set-up, and the loan extension for another four weeks is expected to please fans of both clubs, Barnsley boss Danny Wilson, and Pearson himself.

“I'm delighted to sign for another month. There are a lot of games in February and I'm delighted to be involved,” he said.

The latest deal will now see him remain at Oakwell until Sunday 8th March, potentially allowing another seven matches for the youngster.

Widely considered as one of Manchester United’s most promising prospects in the midfield, Pearson will hope to impress United manager van Gaal as he aims to develop first team opportunities for youth products even further.

Ben Pearson’s final game could come in a league clash at home to Walsall on Saturday 7th March.
