Premier League side Manchester United are reportedly close to agreeing terms with Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, over a possible transfer move in the summer window. The German has been heavily transfer-linked with a move to England over the past eighteen months, and it seems as though his future is finally being resolved. The transfer fee being reported, is £21million pounds, which is a sizeable fee for someone of his quality given the current inflated market, despite all of his injury troubles over the past two seasons.

The 24-year-old spent 14 months out on the sidelines with a back injury, and has had persistent injury issues which have haltered his development in recent years. His current contract with BVB expires next summer, so Dortmund are willing to cash in on him now as opposed to letting him leave for a free transfer, as Robert Lewandowski did to rivals Bayern Munich, next season. It is believed that he will be seen as a long-term replacement for Michael Carrick, who at age 33, is consistently playing well at the moment, but his injury problems over the past few years have meant he is not a guaranteed starter in Louis van Gaal's side, and will have to eventually be replaced gradually.

Around two hours ago, Sky Germany confirmed the news on their official Twitter account, stating that they needed to agree terms before the deal would be finalised in the summer. If the move does go through, it would be a surprise, but a welcome one for a player as good as him in the Premier League.
