Robin van Persie is being lined up as the next Manchester United player to join Juventus.

Van Persie would be following in the footsteps of Carlos Tevez and Patrice Evra, who have both enjoyed successful spells in Turin after leaving Old Trafford.

In what has been an injury-interrupted campaign, van Persie scored only 10 goals, but Juventus are confident they can give the 31-year-old a new lease of life in Serie A, just as they have done with Tevez and Evra.

Van Persie has just one year left on his current deal at United and after his poor form last season is not guaranteed to reclaim a first-team place in the side.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has failed to get the best out of his countryman this season and is understood to be willing to sell van Persie, providing he can find a replacement.

First on van Gaal's shortlist is Gonzalo Higuain. The Napoli striker is seen as an ideal fit at Old Trafford as he could form a lethal partnership with Wayne Rooney and at 27-years-old, he is more of a long term solution for United's front line than van Persie.

However, failure to land Higuain could see van Gaal keep hold of van Persie as his departure would see Manchester United short on strikers, particularly after their decision not to pursue Radamel Falcao after his unsuccessful loan spell.
