Memphis Depay has been confirmed as Manchester United's first summer signing, from Dutch club PSV and was presented today at Old Trafford.

His former national team coach at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and current manager of Manchester United Louis van Gaal firmly believes that this player will be a world class player for his club and national team in the future.

Speaking at United's Carrington training ground, van Gaal says he knows "Memphis well from our time working together in the Netherlands national team."

The former-Netherlands manager reiterated the claims of many in Holland that "he is a young versatile player who has the ability to play in a number of different positions."

Many pundits have suggested what van Gaal said, "it will take time for Memphis to get used to the rhythm of the Premier League" but he quickly reminded everyone he had "no doubt that he has the potential to become a great footballer for this club and he is at the right club to continue the good work he has done so far.”

The former PSV player was the Eredivisie's top scorer last season with 22 goals in 30 games, as well as including six in nine matches in the Europa League.

Meanwhile, Depay revealed "this is a dream come true for me; to play for the biggest club in the world" also revealing his excitement "to have the chance to work with someone who I believe is the best manager in the world; Louis van Gaal."

Depay has a tattoo on his chest saying 'dreamchaser' and says "I have great belief in my ability and I work hard to strive to achieve my dreams."

It's always tough for a player to leave their first team and Depay said "I have been at PSV Eindhoven since I was 12 years old and I would like to thank them for everything."

The Dutchman was vital to PSV's title win last season and said "it was a great moment when we won the league" and he said he "was so happy to be part of that."

In every interview he has been a part of since signing for United he has expressed his excitement, again he repeated "this is now a new chapter in my life and one that I am looking forward to.”

He has played 16 times for his country, scoring thrice, including two goals in the World Cup last summer against Australia and Chile, as well as his latest one against the United States last week in a dramatic 3-2 loss in Amsterdam.

He was also named on the three-man shortlist for the tournament's Best Young Player award, which former Manchester United player and Frenchman Paul Pogba eventually won.

In his nine years at the club since joining the academy at the age of 12, he made his senior debut at the age of 17 and has played 124 times scoring 50 goals during his four years of senior football.
