Former Manchester United defender and pundit Gary Neville has questioned the club's rumoured move for Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos.

United have been linked with Ramos over the past few days with outlets reported that the Spaniard will be used in part exchange with United goalkeeper David de Gea has been heavily linked with a move to Bernabeú.

The deal will apparently be worth around £53million pounds with United looking to get at least £25m for the keeper and then a further £28m to land the 29-year-old defender with Neville tweeting: "These reports saying 40m plus DDG for Ramos?? Please no! Nothing v Ramos but it can’t be right..”

Ramos has refused to talk about any sort of deal but there have been rumours of discontent behind the scenes with Ramos apparently unhappy by the changes in the medical department of the club and the departure of Carlo Ancelotti.

Ramos has had a illustrious career at the Bernabeu since his move from Sevilla ten years ago in 2005 - making 314 appearances winning; three La Liga's, two Copa Del Rey's and one Club World Cup, Super Cup and the Champions League title.

One man who believes that Ramos would be a good fit at Old Trafford is former Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon who believes: "It is going to be very exciting to know what is happening. If Sergio goes to Man United, they will be very lucky.”

Calderon went on to say: "Sergio Ramos is an icon for the fans of Real Madrid. I don’t know if he is the best centre-back in the world, but no doubt he is one of the best."

He went onto talk about his versatility saying he could: "play as a right-back, a midfielder and he was a striker at the beginning of his career."

Ramos is just one of a host of names that have been linked with a move to the Manchester club as it looks to be another busy and expensive summer for Louis van Gaal with a reported £200million pounds to spend this summer.

United have been desperate for a central defender for quite some time with the likes of Nathaniel Clyne, Mats Hummels and Nicolas Otamendi all linked with a move to Old Trafford this year.
