The Portuguese winger, who arrived at Manchester United with Anderson, Owen Hargreaves and Carlos Tévez back in 2007, is set to leave the club four league titles, a Champions League, a League Cup and a World Club Cup later.

The flight is heading for Turkey, with Fenerbahce being the team ready to take him onto their books.

A statement from the club reads that the 28-year-old winger will "from Sunday be in Istanbul to perform the medical examination", whilst the two negotiating clubs are "ironing out the structure of the payment" according to the Daily Mail.

The same paper has previously reported of a transfer fee of only £3.5M, which in fairness could be a potential scoop for a winger who has provided a goal or assist on average every 120 minutes since he first appeared in the Premier League.

United pocketing £20M

However, as long as Louis van Gaal doesn't seem to rate or trust him, United will have vast economical benefits of the deal on top of the transfer fee as well. The former Sporting Lisbon player bizarrely inked a £110K-a-week deal when David Moyes was in charge at Old Trafford.

It must be said that as neither Moyes fancied the Cape Verde born player, it was quite strange that the parties agreed on a five-year contract back then.

The aftermath, however, is that Nani is yet to earn £17M if he remains at United for the next three seasons, so Fenerbahce clearly open up some space in the wage budget of Van Gaal.

Additionally, Nani himself is presumably optimistic for a transfer, as the playing time at Old Trafford would've been limited with teammates like Memphis Depay, Juan Mata and Ángel Di María around.

Ashley Young picking himself up to an acceptable level didn't make it easier for Nani to resurrect his United career, and both Adnan Januzaj and Antonio Valencia have been more trusted by both Moyes and Van Gaal in recent years.
