Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has hinted at the arrival of a ‘surprise’ striker at Old Trafford during a press conference on their pre-season tour of the United States.

United linked with Muller and Pedro

United have been rumoured with many forwards so far in the transfer with the latest been Barcelona’s Pedro and Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller is reportedly keen on a move away from Allianz Arena despite the club saying he is not for sale.

However, it does seem the Dutch coach has a card up his sleeve saying after United’s 1-0 victory over Club America that "it’s not the striker that the media has written about" and that "the transfer period is open until 31 August. You have to wait.”

He also spoke of the club's pursuit of Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos, the Spaniard was subject to a £28.5million bid from the English club last month which was subsequently rejected by the Spanish giants.

Ramos move not ruled out

However, Van Gaal refused to rule out that was the end of the proceedings saying “I have said already it’s a process and maybe Mr Ramos is in the process – you never know.”

United are currently short of forwards with Captain Wayne Rooney and James Wilson the only strikers by trade. The shortage is down to the exit of Robin van Persie to Turkish side Fenerbache and the club deciding not to make Radamel Falcao’s loan deal permanent with the Colombian making the move to Premier League champions Chelsea since then.

If the signing of the surprise striker was to come to fruition he would become United’s fifth signing of the summer so far with; Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian, Morgan Schneiderlin and Bastian Schweinsteiger already making the move to Old Trafford.

Van Gaal’s new recruits who cost upward of £80m are already making an impact with former Southampton man Schneiderlin who made his £24m move last week scoring the only goal in the opening match of the tour against Club America.
