Manchester United youngster Adnan Januzaj will be given a chance in a central attacking role behind the striker next season by boss Louis van Gaal.

Januzaj, now twenty years old, had a stunning breakthrough season under David Moyes but in van Gaal's first season injuries and a lack of confidence seemed to hamper his opportunities in the side.

Yet van Gaal, despite being unimpressed with Januzaj, knows the Belgian's quality and wants to try and reignite his career at United.

The Dutch manager says that he has "given him a chance in this position", meaning the central attacking role in between the midfield and the striker, which will usually be Wayne Rooney.

"You have to look if he can do that or not" says van Gaal, who does concede, however, that "he has a lot of quality" and "against Barcelona he showed it for the first time."

According to the Telegraph, van Gaal has been impressed with Januzaj with the youngster having traveled to Dubai with Luke Shaw, also 20, in an attempt to build fitness and strength.

Januzaj scored brilliant goal against Barcelona in International Champions Cup game

Januzaj scored the final goal against Barcelona in Santa Clara on Saturday, taking the ball down brilliantly before holding it up and passing it into the net as the goalkeeper rushed out. United finished 3-1 winners, with Jesse Lingard and Wayne Rooney getting the first two goals for United.

The Belgian, who appeared for his country at the 2014 World Cup after his first season at United, is likely to get another chance in the central attacking role (against Paris Saint Germain) before the start of the season proper, as United take on Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.
