Louis van Gaal says that he is not desperate to sign a new striker for Manchester United, despite Wayne Rooney failing to score in the first four games of the season.

United, second in the Premier League, have got seven points from three games but despite looking slick, comfortable on the ball and quick in the opening stages against Newcastle United, they eventually shared the points fairly.

Rooney had an offside goal disallowed in the first half and looked better than in the first three games, but still he failed to score and he still did not look like the Wayne Rooney who has previously scored 15 goals a season.

United have dominated all three games says van Gaal

Yet Van Gaal still says that the answer to whether United need a new striker is "no, because we were three times the best team."

He does have a worry, however, and that is that United "have to dominate the opponent". "Against Tottenham" United did not but they did "against Villa, Brugge and today [United] dominate."

On the pre-season tour of the United States of America, United did "dominate against Barcelona, Club America and San Jose" and "only against Paris Saint-Germain" they did not.

Van Gaal felt Rooney offside goal "is very doubtful"

Van Gaal felt "when you see the televsion" replays, "it is very doubtful" that Rooney's goal was offiside. He says that "you need more equipment to help the referees and linesmen because it is not easy".

United "were unlucky with rewarding" themselves during the game, despite creating "a lot of chances." Van Gaal says he "was satisfied about the performance" and told the players at half time and after the match, "but you don't win." and he is not satisfied "with the result, and that is different."
