Former fan favourite Cristiano Ronaldo has revealed how Sir Alex Ferguson’s feared hairdryer treatment helped to inspire players and that it was a positive part of Ferguson’s arsenal.

The former-Aberdeen manager took over the Manchester-based club back in 1982. He went on to win 13 Premier League titles, five FA Cups, four League Cups, 10 Community Shields and two UEFA Champions Leagues.

The hairdryer was a positive, according to Ronaldo

Ronaldo was one of the few ex-United players who spoke to the BBC for an upcoming documentary about the former Manchester United boss with Nick Robinson. In his interview with the BBC, the United fan favourite and Real Madrid superstar claimed that it was “unbelievable but it was good - because we learn."

The now Real Madrid icon, played nearly 300 games under Sir Alex Ferguson, was not immune to receiving the hair dryer treatment himself despite his obvious talent.

The Portuguese international recalls one time when Sir Alex “kicked the chairs and he kicked the boots, he kicked everything, the waters, the drinks,".

The hairdryer treatment was a well-known part of Sir Alex’s arsenal and enjoyed almost legendary status among Manchester United supporters, but it seems any player could receive the treatment regardless of their status and ability.

Favoured part of Sir Alex Fergusons arsenal

Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, who enjoyed a long spell at the club which saw him overtake Liverpool as the top team in England, was not just known as a tactical mastermind.

His feared hairdryer treatment was revered across the footballing world and shows how he was able to inspire an ever changing squad of players over the years.

It is not hard to imagine that if a player did not react well to his hairdryer treatment that they would not be at the football club for much longer. His ability to motivate players when they are struggling or playing poorly is a key ability for any manager to have.

To see a player of Cristiano Ronaldo’s status come out and admit that the feared hairdryer treatment was, in fact, a positive for the players at the club shows the reality of just how effective it was.
