Manchester United stars get set for international duty

The international break is generally a busy one for Manchester United’s superstars, with many possibly featuring for their respected countries this coming week.

Last weekend, results fell United’s way and couldn’t have went any better, with a strong display against West Bromwich Albion in front of a packed Old Trafford.

Teammates going head-to-head this week

Numerous team-mates could face off when the international break serves up some intriguing fixtures including the fixture between Spain and England.

Player of the month Chris Smalling is joined in the England squad by all-time top-goalscorer Wayne Rooney, Phil Jones, Michael Carrick.

Their first opposition Spain have called upon goalkeeper David De Gea and midfielder Juan Mata, who’ll both be likely to play a part in Friday’s friendly in Alicante.

Mata has been a crucial part in United’s fantastic start to the season and he also managed to get on the scoresheet with a penalty in injury time during their 2-0 win last weekend against the Baggies.

A matter of four nights after that, England will return to Wembley to meet another top European side in France, hoping that the two fixtures will put them in good stead ahead of next summer’s European Championships.

France have called upon youngster Anthony Martial and Morgan Schneiderlin in their ranks for the match and their preceding match with Germany.

Martial, who signed for £36 million during the summer from Monaco, has three goals in his eight appearances this season and has earned a call-up once again to Didier Deschamps’ 23-man squad.

The Frenchmen could both be in contention to play against colleague Bastian Schweinsteiger at the Stade de France in Paris on Friday.

Another gigantic clash takes place on Tuesday when Bastian’s Germany will take on neighbours Netherlands in Hanover, with the Dutch having Daley Blind and Memphis Depay in their squad.

Belgium will be without Marouane Fellaini, who has been forced to withdraw from the squad through injury, will miss the game against Italy and Mata and De Gea’s Spain.

Matteo Darmian is likely to retain his spot at the Koning Boudewifnstadion and also a few days later in Bologna when Italy face Romania for their second game of the break.

Meanwhile, Paddy McNair could join up with the Northern Ireland squad for the visit of Latvia at Windsor Park even though he is still recovering from injury and not been named in the 23-man squad.
