Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel spoke after Manchester United's match against Liverpool where they won 1-0.Schmeichel doesn't believe that they can win the Premier League this season.

United now sit in fifth place in the league seven points behind Arsenal and Leicester City with 16 games of the season to go, and manager Louis van Gaal thinks that United can win the title, but Schmeichel is less convinced about that.

Schmeichel doesn't think United can win the Premier League title

Schmeichel, speaking to Sky Sports, said "I don't think they can win the title. I don't think the team is good enough" which is a view that many pundits think about United's chances of winning the league, and Schmeichel felt the win over Liverpool was "lucky".

Schmeichel continued to say that "De Gea played exceptionally well and was key in keeping them in the game" as the Spanish goalkeeper has also done in numerous other occasions this season, and Schmeichel also felt that "when you have a world-class player like Rooney something can happen" as once again Rooney came up with the goods for United.

Schmeichel feels Van Gaal likes his teams to win games 1-0

The win at Anfield is a good start at redemption for van Gaal as they try and regain top four this season after a poor run of results before Christmas, and one thing that was clear from the win against Liverpool was the lack of chances that are still not being created, and Schmeichel feels van Gaal likes it to be that way.

On van Gaal liking his teams to win like they did against Liverpool, Schmeichel said "van Gaal is very keen on telling us they have done what they have trained" which means he sets his team up to defend, and try to not give away any goals before trying to score them.
