Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes has left the club to head to Belgian side Standard Liege on loan.

The deal is a six-month loan deal and is effective until the end of the season. The Spaniard is now one of five players who have gone out on loan in the month of January.

United’s January Loan Outs

As mentioned above, Valdes is one of five players who have been loaned out this January transfer window - four of whom are goalkeepers.

Sam Johnstone has joined Preston North End on a 28-day loan, joining former United academy product Ben Pearson in the side - who has moved permanently. Dean Henderson was loaned out to Stockport County for a month whilst Kieran O’Hara was the final goalie loaned out, making a move to Morecambe.

The only outfield player loaned out is Ashley Fletcher. The striker currently plies his trade at Barnsley but is set to return to United after a month.

Valdes’ History At United

In late October, Valdes was offered a chance to rehab from his knee injury at United. He signed an 18-month deal in January of 2015 and played for U21s late that month.

His first taste of Premier League action came on May 17, 2015 against Arsenal when He came on for an injured David de Gea in the final 16 minutes. He conceded an own goal to Tyler Blackett, which meant the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

This season, Valdes has been mixed up in a bit of controversy with manager Louis van Gaal. The Dutchman put the Spaniard on the transfer list this summer after he noted that Valdes refused to play in a reserve game.

He did not move in the summer transfer window and was not given a squad number. However, he was eventually named to the squad in order for Manchester United to meet Premier League rules.
