Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has heaped praise on David De Gea after the Spaniard’s brilliant performance against Chelsea on Sunday. Manchester United failed to keep a clean sheet at Stamford Bridge despite De Gea’s heroics as Deigo Costa equalised in added time.

De Gea made numerous saves throughout the game to keep the Red Devils in the game after going 1-0 up at half time. The Spain international continued to save points for his side as he has been doing it for the past two years.

De Gea is one of the best in the world

Rooney admitted that “David again made some incredible saves.” De Gea has been awarded Manchester United’s player of the year for last two seasons and Rooney admitted that he continues to prove he is best in the world. He insisted that “De Gea has probably been the best goalkeeper in the world in the last few seasons and, again, he made some important saves to keep it at 1-0 for a long time.”

Rooney expressed his disappointment about not keeping the clean sheet. He further added "unfortunately, the goal at the end has got Chelsea a point. It’s a disappointing result, particularly after conceding late on, and it feels a bit like a defeat.”

United delivered a good performance

Rooney also believes that “overall, it was a good performance and we played some nice stuff, as we have done in the last few games.” The English forward stressed on the fact that “at this stage of the season, it is results that matter and it was very disappointing to drop two points" which has caused the players to be down at the minute "after conceding late on, but we need to lift ourselves for next weekend now.”

The Red Devils are fifth in the table, 6 points behind fourth-placed Manchester City. The top four teams face each other this weekend, while the Red Devils travel to Stadium of Light to face Sunderland. United would be looking to gain momentum by grabbing all the points against the hosts.
