Southampton's 24-year-old right-back Nathaniel Clyne has publicly stated he is happy at the Saints, despite being heavily linked with a move away from the club this summer.

Manchester United, with manager Louis van Gaal in charge, are believed to be interested in the England international, as a possible long-term replacement for Brazilian full-back Rafael da Silva, who has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford over the past year or so. The Red Devils have reportedly made him one of their prime summer targets, as they look to solidify their place in the top four of the league again and establish themselves as geniune title contenders for the forseeable future.

According to news rumours, they are willing to offer Mexican forward Javier Hernandez as part of a part-exchange deal, to try and persuade van Gaal's Dutch compatriot Ronald Koeman to let go of one of the club's prized assets following a summer haul which included Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana and Calum Chambers back in 2014.

Clyne is currently holding crunch talks with the side over a possible new contract, and much to United's disappointment, he could still stay at St. Mary's beyond the end of this season.

"I'm enjoying my football for Southampton, playing week-in, week-out and it's an up-and-coming club so yeah, I'm happy playing for Southampton and happy to stay at [So'ton] as well," he told the Southern Daily Echo. He continued: "My agent is negotiating, so I'll just leave it with my agent and I'm just going to concentrate on playing my footballl.

The speed demon's current contract expires in the summer of 2016, and it is believed that his manager Koeman has given him up to ten days (reported last week) to make a decision as to whether he wants to stay at the club or not.
