Southampton full-back Ryan Bertrand is hoping to continue to their fantastic clean-sheet run when his side travel to Wales to take on Swansea City.

The Saints man returns to the venue where he made his professional debut, which came in his time at AFC Bournemouth back in 2006 when his side lost 4-2 in League 1.

Full of belief

The Saints head to Swansea on the back of five consecutive clean-sheets, and the England left-back is hoping to come out on the winning side in Wales.

“I made my senior debut at the Liberty Stadium in my Bournemouth days,” the defender told reporters ahead of the game.

Bertrand knows that the Swans have been much improved of late and his side will need to be at their best in order to collect the three points saying, “They’ve done better as of late having turned a corner and it always seems to be a good game when we play them."

He added, “Hopefully we can get the better of them.”

Bertrand remembers previous game well

The last time the two teams met coincided with Bertrand's full return from injury, and he remembers the game well,  “It was comfortable [last time]. We played really well and controlled the tempo." He continued, “It was a really important win and a very good day for the team.”

The defender knows that it will take something impressive from Swansea in order to break down a resilience Saints back-line, and is up for the challenge which their opponents will offer this weekend. He also recognises that it is important that his side finish with a win before the upcoming break with the FA Cup weekend.

"The longer you go, the more pride you take in it,” Bertrand explained. “It gives us a good steady rock and the platform to go on and win games."
