Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce wants six wins from the remaining 13 to ensure Premier League remains on Wearside next season.

Allardyce believes he has the players that are capable of doing just that, but his side are still four points adrift of safety despite recent performances.

Spirited performances in recent games

The Black Cats came back from 2-0 down against Liverpool at the weekend to come out with a point after Adam Johnson and Jermain Defoe scored inside the last eight minutes of the game.

This followed on from last week's 1-0 defeat to Manchester City, when Sunderland could have easily claimed something from the game.

New signings Wahbi KhazriJan Kirchhoff and Lamine Kone from the start at Anfield before Allardyce brought on Dame N'Doye early in the game following Duncan Watmore's injury.

Signings settled in quickly for fight

Allardyce feels that the four new signings have settled in at the Stadium of Light quickly, and they are putting up a fight for survival ahead of Manchester United's trip to Wearside on Saturday.

"I think that from the 13 games, we need six wins," Allardyce said.

"The character we showed here will be hugely important if we can repeat it," he added.

Allardyce continued, "I do believe in a short period of time the new players have added some quality in the squad."

The boss believed that Jan Kirchhoff was "the mainstay" for everything "that was good against Man City", but thinks he "he felt the pace" in the Liverpool tussle.

Staying up will be a team effort

Allardyce doesn't believe that staying up will be all down to the new signings and he has stated that players at the club will also play a vital role in the back half of the season.

"When you get players coming to a club in the position we are in the Premier League with a big smile on their face," Allardyce said.

He feels Kone has had "an effect" on the players, saying they "come in fresh" and "want to prove themselves and do well".
