Swansea midfielder and Tottenham loanee Tom Carroll has been ruled out for up to six weeks with ankle ligament damage.

The England Under-21s captain withdrew from the squad after he was forced off early in the second half in England’s 1-0 victory over the Czech Republic last Friday in which he scored the only goal. The midfielder missed England’s 3-2 victory over Germany on Monday and may have well played his last game for the Swans as his loan deal expires at the end of the season after playing 18 matches and scoring one.

Reports say Carroll could make a return to White Hart Lane for treatment in a bid to be fit for the Under-21 Championships in Prague in the summer.

Garry Monk is also monitoring the fitness of their winger Jefferson Montero who was injured in Ecuador’s defeat to Mexico. The extent of his muscle strain is unknown for the 25-year-old who has struggled with injuries throughout the season and is a doubt for the match against Hull City.

If Carroll can manage to recover in time for the final game of the season away to Crystal Palace on May 24 he will face stern competition for a place with; Ki Sung-Yeung, Jonjo Shelvey, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Leon Britton and January signing Jack Cork who all appear to be ahead of him at the Liberty Stadium.
