Watford manager Quique Sanchez Flores has said that he does not understand why prices for tickets to come watch football in England are so expensive, and that he wishes that fans could come watch games for free.

The fans protest

The subject of ticket prices has been on everyone's lips in the past week or so, with the cost to go watch a Premier League game coming under particular scrutiny, after Liverpool fans staged a protest during their match against Sunderland last weekend.

As a result, the club have listened, freezing prices for season tickets and individual games. Liverpool's owners, Fenway Sports Group, also issued an apology in an open letter to the disgruntled fans.

"The fan support is amazing"

Now, Watford boss Flores has expressed his wish that football fans could watch a game without paying a penny, suggesting that supporters should pay "as little as possible" to come to matches. The Spaniard further went on to say that the love football fans feel for their team is "amazing" and yet they have to pay for "expensive" tickets in order to show their support.

Flores has been quick to point towards the support of the Watford fans on a number of occasions this season - and indeed, have his players - repeatedly suggesting that the Hornets' excellent campaign would not have been half as successful without the fans to get behind the side and lift their performances.

Pointing towards the "difficult situations" that occur financially in many families, Flores was quick to express his confusion with why ticket prices must be so high, instead suggesting that fans should "go for free, and if not free, cheap". The Watford boss did however mention that unfortunately football is "more and more a business" and that the likelihood of free tickets is a forlorn hope.

The Hornets travel to London on Saturday to face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, after winning just one of their last eight Premier League fixtures. Flores' side still sit in a highly respectable 10th place but will expect to collect all three points against Alan Pardew's struggling  Eagles.
