After scoring a brace to secure a comfortable win for France over Honduras, Karim Benzema has urged people to judge him on more than just goals.

The Real Madrid striker scored a penalty in the first half before emphatically finding the net in the second to round off a good win for France in their Group E opener.

"Personally, my objectives have been met. I had it in my head to have a good game, to win, and to play my football without any pressure, which I did," he is quoted as saying by L'Equipe.

He was relied on to fill the boots of Franck Ribery as France's leader on the field and he did it effectively with a strong performance linking up with Mathieu Valbuena and Antoine Griezmann to great effect throughout the game.

"I'm very happy and very proud. But the victory is the most important [thing]. Some judge me on the number of goals I score but, for me, the way I play counts for more."

He was unlucky not to have scored a hat-trick in the game but his second effort which hit the post was actually turned in by Noel Valladares as the goal-line technology revealed.

The 28-year-old is now a serious contender for the golden boot and as the tournament progresses his confidence should rise, leading to even more goals

France now face Switzerland in their second Group E match to boost their chances of qualifying for the Round of 16.
