Marinus Dijkhuizen and his SBV Excelsior team may have a titanic struggle next season in the Eredivisie as one of the three new boys, along with Willem II and FC Dordrecht.

The Kralingers finished third in the Eerste Divisie last year but fell into the play-offs, where they disposed of FC Den Bosch 5-2 on aggregate before defeating RKC Waalwijk 4-2 over two legs.

Excelsior - who serve as a feeder to club to Rotterdam's biggest club, Feyenoord - have made two signings so far this summer. The first of which has come in the form of defensive midfielder, Bart van Brakel.

Van Brakel is on trial with the club after his contract at SC Cambuur expired at the end of last season. The midfielder has also played with FC Eindhoven,  FC Den Bosch and NEC Nijmegen.

Dijkhuizen has probably signed Bart van Brakel to add more depth to his midfield, as the 27 year old has never really been a mainstay at any club.

The second addition to the side is forward Ninos Gouriye, on loan from ADO Den Haag. The 23 year old scored 13 goals in 38 games at Heracles Almelo in the 2012-13 season but only made 15 appearances last season in The Hague.

Gouriye could prove to be a great signing for Excelsior, providing he can repeat the successes he had at Heracles two years ago.

Excelsior's Stadion Woudestein is the smallest in the Eredivisie, with a capacity of just 3,500 but being the only stadium in the league with an astro turf pitch may give the team a strong home advantage.

This home advantage could be the difference between survival and relegation for Excelsior this season. Either way, don't expect anything big from them this year, a lack of depth and experience in their squad may well result in the drop straight back to the Eerste Divisie.
